MVSO Ensembles

Junior Orchestra

Designed for students who have some prior experience on their instrument or are studying privately. Parents must attend rehearsals with their children and younger students should be mature enough to observe quietly during parts of the rehearsal.
The Junior Orchestra also frequently plays with the Senior Orchestra in combined pieces on concerts.

Focus on:

  • Improving posture, technique, tone, and musical expression by group review of early Suzuki repertoire
  • Learning to read music using sightreading and method books and theory games
  • Developing ensemble skills
  • Applying reading skills to beginning orchestra repertoire

Senior Orchestra

Thursdays 6:45 - 7:30 P.M.

20 min. later every 3rd Thursday of the month
Designed for more advanced students with fluent reading skills.

Focus on:

  • Increasing sightreading skills and understanding of theory
  • Expanding technique and musicianship while exploring a variety of repertoire

Chamber Orchestra

Thursdays 7:30 - 8:15 P.M.

20 min. later every 3rd Thursday of the month

Designed for advanced students who enjoy challenging repertoire.
Members are encouraged to participate in Senior Orchestra also.

Cello Choir

6:45 - 7:05 P.M. every 3rd Thursday of the month

Designed for all MVSO cellists, beginning to advanced.

Focus on:

  • larger cello ensemble music from Suzuki repertoire and more

Advanced Cello Ensemble

Thursdays 8:15 - 8:35 P.M.

Does not meet 3rd Thursday of the month

Designed for advanced cellists.
Members must also participate in Chamber Orchestra.

Focus on:

  • advanced technique, including thumb position
  • ensemble repertoire for cellists, such as the Popper Requiem
